Lowline Cows

Fullbloods

Registered Name: MLC Izzie

Barn name: Izzie

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 6/3/06

Birthweight: 35

Color: Black

Offspring:

     Shaner Bob

After passing up buying Shane at the Lowline sale at the National Western, in January 2009, Charleen Mellott approached us and asked if we would be interested in purchasing Izzie, who was bred to Shane. We took her up on the offer and have been happy with our purchase. Rick Mellott said Izzie was "Black Lab gentle" and he was right! She is a pleasure to be around and is a good mom to boot.

Registered Name: EZ Sherry Gerry 55P

Barn name: Sherry

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 7/17/04

Birthweight: 45

Color: Black

Offspring:

We purchased Sherry from the BBQ ranch, by Fort Collins, Colorado, after seeing a flyer advertising Lowlines for sale at the National Western Lowline auction (literally the flyer had been casually set down on a table outside of the auction office where we had just finished paying for Perfection). What caught my eye was the BBQ, since Red was off the BBQ ranch and we were so happy with her. She is a nice cow and easy to handle.

Registered Name: JR Miss Perfection 7T24

Barn name: Perfection

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 4/14/07

Birthweight: not on file

Color: Black

Offspring:

     MLAR Purple Rain

     MLAR Power's Pretty Penny

Perfection was our only purchase at the National Western Lowline auction in January 2009. After pouring over the sale catalog for literally hours and hours, going and looking at all the cattle at the stock yards, revamping our picks, attending the "Peoples Choice" selection show before the auction, and revamping our picks again, Perfection was still on the list. She was the #5 Peoples Choice, and therefore was the 5th bred heifer sold, and I wanted her badly. I was ecstatic when we were high bidder! She didn't do so well at the show (don't get me started on the funky judging), but we still thought she was a good heifer and she has proven us correct. She throws an awesome calf and is a great mom. Jake Reed, you did a good job with this one!

Registered Name: EZ Bunny 7R

Barn name: Bunny

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 3/17/05

Birthweight: 41

Color: Black

Offspring:

     Indy

Bunny wasn't put on the open market, but circumstances put her available to us (thanks Neil Effertz). She is a nice cow and a good mom. She is easy to work with and sometimes is so calm in the chute that I wonder if she is halter broke or deep down really wants to be a pet <grin>. Her calf, Indy,  was born on the semi, when we were moving from Colorado to New York (he was born around Chicago, but we didn't get to pull over and check until right over the Indiana border).

Registered Name: MLAR Purple Rain

Barn name: Rainy

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 3/29/09

Birthweight: 32

Color: Black

Rainy was the first fullblood born on the ranch and were we ever happy to see her! She has developed into a nice heifer and we look forward to seeing her mature and produce.

Purebreds

Registered Name: BBQ Big Red

Barn name: Red

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 2/27/06

Birthweight: not on file

Color: Black

Offspring:

     MLAR Power's Renee

Red was bred on the BBQ ranch, which is where we got Sherry from (see Sherry's story). She is very beefy, which we love, and has a good disposition. Her first calf with Power, Renee, is awesome, and we look forward to more from this pairing!

Registered Name: BV29T

Barn name: Harvick

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 3/27/07

Birthweight: 54

Color: Black

Offspring:

     MLAR Power's Delana

Harvick is a purebred female that is compact and easy to handle. Her tag number is 29T and I have really tried to start having names for the cows, instead of numbers--names are more personable--and since 29 is Kevin Harvick's car number in NASCAR, I named her Harvick. Delana, Harvick's first calf, was named after Kevin Harvick's wife.

Registered Name: SS Pollywog

Barn name: Polly

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 6/9/07

Birthweight: not on file

Color: Black

Offspring:

Donny (steer calved 5/15/09, weighed 51 lb.)

Polly is a good mom and has a nice disposition.

Registered Name: MLAR Power's Renee

Barn name: Renee

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 3/9/09

Birthweight: 43

Color: Black

Renee was the first calf of the season and I was sooo excited! She was the highest percentage of Lowline we had ever had born on the ranch and also the highest percentage we'd had out of Power. We weren't disappointed! As of September 2009, she has grown quickly and holds a great deal of promise. We are looking forward to seeing what she produces!

Registered Name: MLAR Power's Delana (pending)

Barn name: Delana

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 5/18/09

Birthweight: 50

Color: Black

Delana is the first calf out of Harvick. She has developed into a nice female and we are anticipating more good calves from her line.

3/4 Bloods

Registered Name: MLAR Power's Chunk

Barn name: Chunk

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 3/2/07

Birthweight: not on file

Color: Black

Chunk is an awesome cow out of #916 and Power. Her forehead is very wide and gives her a beefier look. She is the ideal body type we look for, and has the typical "Power head" that we like.

1/2 Bloods

Registered Name: EZ Miss Midshipman 916J

Barn name: 916

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 3/26/99

Birthweight: not on file

Color: Black

Offspring:

     Chunk

916 has consistently produced top quality calves and solidifies the fact that the bulls do not make babies by themselves; it takes a great cow, along with a great bull, to make excellent babies. Her calf from 2008 averaged 3+ lb. gain per day, on alfalfa/grass hay only! We always look forward to seeing her calves. The calf she is pictured with above was Chunk when she was a few weeks old. By her registration number, you can tell that she was one of the first percentage cattle registered with the ALR--we like going back to the base bloodlines! I need to ask Neil Effertz if he has anymore females out of that Angus cow!

Registered Name: EZ Miss Bligh 929J

Barn name: 929

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 4/3/99

Birthweight: not on file

Color: Black

929 (don't be confused by the #3 in her ear), is the other halfblood cow we still have from the original halfbloods that Jeramie purchased (916 is the other). This year was the second year that she was bred to Power and her heifer calf, Sue, has turned out to be quite nice.

Registered Name: MLAR Power's Sprite

Barn name: Sprite

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 5/23/08

Birthweight: Not on file

Color: Black

Out of a commercial Black Angus cow and Power.

Registered Name: MLAR Power's Dream

Barn name: Dream

Sex: Cow

Birthdate: 5/3/09

Birthweight: 49

Color: Tan

Dream is just that, my dream. She is a full sister to Peanut, and since keeping Peanut wasn't an option, I dreamed of a heifer like him. I got it. In the picture above she is 4 1/2 months old. We expect great things out of her! Black may be the "in" color, but I really like the tan (we call it "mouse"). We expect great things from this one!
